Each color represents a different time period during the Chenle Formation. I'm just amazed to realize that I'm looking at 4 million years of geologic time in this image. It's fun to explore these hills and find petrified wood and dinosaur bones (yes!) as they are being unearthed as the sandstone erodes.
Melany Sarafis served her country for 24 years and recently retired from the USAF as a First Sergeant. She thinks it's really stupid when photographers refer to themselves in the 3rd person on their biographies. I needed to do something "low speed" after a successful but stressful military career.
