Fine Art America Introduces Social Media Art Contests

June 1st, 2011

Did you know that Fine Art America is home to more than 100,000 of the world's greatest living photographers and visual artists?

Did you know that, each day, these photographers and artists upload an average of 3,500 new images which can be bought as framed prints, stretched canvases, and greeting cards?

Did you know that FineArtAmerica.com was built by a single programmer and that FAA now attracts more visitors each day than Art.com (a 500+ employee business)?

No?

Let's spread the word...

Fine Art America has just launched 100 new online contests which are designed to showcase the beautiful images being produced by our members and to help increase public awareness of FAA.

Each contest is open to the public, requires no registration fee, and awards $250 in prizes.

A new contest launches every time FAA gets 1,000 new "likes" on our Facebook Fan Page.

It's that simple.   Upload your images to FAA, enter them into our contests, help us spread the word, and then enjoy the excitement as hundreds of thousands of daily visitors view your entries and cast their votes.

You could win one of our $250 prizes or, even better, attract new art collectors who purchase your prints.

Best of luck to everyone!

Fine Art America Introduces Limited Time Promotions

March 9th, 2011

Effective immediately, all FAA members can now create their own limited time promotions!

Simply select one of your images to promote... select one of our standard sizes... apply your markup... set your time frame... and start promoting!

We'll create a beautiful promotional page for you that looks just like this one which you can use advertise your artwork on Facebook, Twitter, your website, your blog, and via e-mail.

Your promotional page is specifically designed to add an element of excitement to the buying process.

Let's spread the word...

There is clock that counts down the remaining time in the promotional period, and there is a counter that counts down the number of available prints.

In order to make it easy to advertise your promotion on Facebook and Twitter, there are links to both of those websites at the top of your promotional page.   Just click on those links, and an announcement will instantly appear on your Facebook wall and Twitter feed.   Your friends and family can also click on the links to help spread the word.

In order to alert FAA visitors about your promotion, your promotional print will appear on a special page of our search engine:

https://fineartamerica.com/shop/special+promotions

This page only shows active promotions.   If you've ever felt "lost in the crowd" on FAA, this is a great way to stand out.   Each FAA member can only have three promotions running at any given time, and as a result, the number of images that appear on this special page of the search engine will be quite limited.

For example, if you run a promotion for one of your images which depicts the New York skyline, it will probably be the only image on that particular search engine page...

https://fineartamerica.com/art/all/new+york+skyline/special+promotions

... even though there are hundreds of New York skyline images on FAA:

https://fineartamerica.com/art/all/new+york+skyline/all

Please note - there may be a delay of up to three hours between when you launch your promotion and when it appears in our search engine.   Don't worry - it will show up.

The whole purpose of these limited time promotions is to allow you to offer your artwork for sale at a discounted price... increase your visibility on FAA... add a sense of excitement to the buying process... give you a great reason to promote yourself to your friends, family, art collectors, and online friends... and, hopefully, increase your sales!

To get started, look for the new icon on your behind the scenes page which says "Limited Time Promotions".

Fine Art America Introduces Customizable Discount Codes

November 23rd, 2010

Have you ever wanted to offer a special discount to potential buyers?   Now you can!

Effective immediately, all FAA members can create their own discount codes.   With a few simple clicks, you can pick a discount level (e.g. 25% off), set an expiration date, and then generate your discount code.

Then, just spread the word...

Post an announcement on your Facebook wall.   Post an announcement on Twitter.   Create a beautiful e-mail using the FAA e-mail feature and send it to your friends, family, and previous buyers.

Discount codes are a great way to generate interest in your artwork and attract new buyers who may have been hesitant to buy from you in the past.   They also provide a great excuse to do a little marketing and self-promotion.

If you're looking for a reason to promote yourself this holiday season - here it is!

Fine Art America Introduces Personalized Art Catalogs

August 30th, 2010

Have you ever been at an art fair or tradeshow and wanted to be able to hand a prospective buyer a "menu" for your artwork?   Something that shows all of your available sizes, prices, and ordering information...

Now you can!   On each artwork page on FAA, there is a new link underneath the main image that looks like this:

If you click on the link, a PDF document will open up and show you an ordering menu for that image.

Here are some examples:

Artwork Menu #1

Artwork Menu #2

Artwork Menu #3

You can print the PDF documents using your home printer, take them to your local print shop (e.g. FedEx Kinkos) for a more professional look, or just e-mail them directly to prospective buyers.

If you assemble a few individual PDFs together... you've got your own ordering catalog!

These PDFs are designed to help you advertise your artwork to prospective buyers and encourage them to browse and purchase your artwork online.

There's no better way to quickly and easily show your buyers what you have to offer.

Example: Lost River Mountains by Leland Howard

Fine Art America Introduces Facebook Shopping Cart

July 11th, 2010

Fine Art America is pleased to announce our newest marketing tool.   Effective immediately, all FAA members can advertise and sell their artwork directly from their Facebook profile pages and fan pages!

With a few simple clicks, you can add a full-featured FAA shopping cart directly to your personal page and/or fan page.   Your Facebook friends and fans can then browse through all of your artwork without ever leaving Facebook!

Examples:

Mandy Wiltse's Fan Page Shopping Cart

Ken Power's Fan Page Shopping Cart

Melissa McDole's Fan Page Shopping Cart

Your shopping cart allows your friends and fans to browse through your images by keywords, galleries, medium, and more.   All of your prices are clearly marked throughout the shopping system, and if a visitor is interested in making a purchase, it only takes a few simple clicks!

If you assemble a few individual PDFs together... you've got your own ordering catalog!

Facebook is an enormously powerful marketing tool for photographers and all visual artists.   It's a great way to quickly build a fan base for your artwork... and now, with your new FAA shopping cart, you can make it easy for your fan base own your artwork!

Example: Mandy Wiltse's Fan Page Shopping Cart

Fine Art America Releases "Flash-Free" Slideshows

May 5th, 2010

Art Prints

For those members who are interested in promoting their artwork via slideshows, FineArtAmerica.com has just released a new slideshow feature which does not rely on Flash.

Why is that important?

In April, Steve Jobs posted an open letter on Apple's website stating that Apple will not support Flash on the IPhone, IPad, or any future devices:

http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughts-on-flash/

As internet users start to do more and more web browsing on Apple's mobile devices (i.e. IPhone and IPad), they won't be able to view any Flash content.   If you're currently using a slideshow tool from SmugMug, Flickr, ZenFolio, etc... mobile users won't be able to see it because it's developed in Flash.

So... FAA has just released a new slideshow tool that is 100% Flash free!

Just click on the marketing widgets page from your control panel, and you'll see several different slideshows to choose from.   Simply copy and paste the appropriate code onto your website or blog, and you'll instantly have a beautiful slideshow that advertises your artwork... and is visible on the mobile web!

Fine Art America Introduces Customizable HTML E-Mails with Advanced Tracking Features

January 8th, 2008

Each member of FineArtAmerica.com now has the ability to create customized HTML e-mails which you can send to your friends, family, art colllectors, business acquaintances, and more!

What is a customizable HTML e-mail?

It's a beautiful e-mail with graphics - just like the ones that you receive from Amazon.com, HomeDepot.com, and other retailers.

What is customizable about it?

Absolutely everything!   You can include your images from Fine Art America... you can include your headshot... you can include links to other websites... you can include images from other websites... and more!   Best of all, you don't need any HTML experience in order to put together a beautiful e-mail.

Who can I e-mail it to?

You can upload up to 10,000 e-mail addresses to FineArtAmerica.com and then e-mail all of them directly from our site in a matter of seconds.   Each person on your list will receive a personalized e-mail (i.e. not a bulk carbon copy), and each e-mail is sent from your personal e-mail address (e.g. myaddress@hotmail.com) - yes, we can really do that!

Why would I want to send out a bunch of beautiful e-mails?

Beautiful artwork deserves beautiful e-mails!   There is simply no better way to keep your friends, family, and potential art collectors informed of your latest works, upcoming events, and more!   Imagine - every time you schedule an appearance at an art fair, every time you finish a new painting or photograph, every time you offer a discount on your artwork... you can create a beautiful e-mail in a matter of minutes and then send it to everyone on your list!

You can now proactively drive people to your web pages and increase your sales!

Is there anything else that I should know?

Yes - when you send out an e-mail, you can track to see if and when it gets opened!   Yes - we can really do that, too!

Does it cost anything to use this feature?

No - it's 100% free for all members.   A feature like this typically costs $100+ per month from other online retailers (e.g. http://www.constantcontact.com/pricing/index.jsp).

Why is it free?

In 2009, Fine Art America is dedicated to becoming the premier online venue for professional and up-and-coming artists.   We have a wealth of features which do not exist anywhere else in the online art world (e.g. automatic location detection, high-resolution previews, stretched canvas previews, and more), and this is one more to add to the list.

Are my e-mails and e-mail lists secure?

Yes - your e-mails and e-mail lists are always kept private.   FineArtAmerica.com will not send e-mails (e.g. newsletters, promotions, etc.) to anyone on your e-mail lists unless they have voluntarily registered to be a member of our site (i.e. registered as an artist, gallery owner, or art collector).

How do I get started?

If you're already a member, simply login to your account and click on the "E-Mail" tab.   You can create your e-mail right there in a matter of minutes.

If you're not a member, just open a free account, and you're off!

Fine Art America Stretched Canvas Previews

August 24th, 2008

Sydney Icon by Sheila Smart

The image on the left shows Sheila Smart's photograph of the Sydney Opera House as it would appear as a stretched canvas.

Stretched canvases have become very popular on FineArtAmerica.com.   In order to help members sell their artwork in this configuration, we have just released a new feature which can automatically display any flat image as a beautifully stretched canvas.   Here is another example.

While viewing a stretched canvas, you can choose from four different wrap styles (black border, white border, mirrored image border, or museum wrap), and the image will automatically update to reflect your selection!

To view your artwork as a stretched canvas, simply visit one of your artwork pages and click on the link that says "Stretched" underneath "Buy a Giclee Print".   Note - this feature is available only to print-on-demand members.

There is simply no better way to "try before you buy" and encourage visitors to purchase your prints!

Fine Art America Introduces Free Print on Demand Trial Period

August 10th, 2008

To celebrate the one year anniversary of the print on demand program, we are offering a free preview of the program to all non-POD members.   Starting now and running through September 15th, you can order prints of your own artwork, regardless of whether or not you're participating in the print-on-demand program.

Have you ever wondered what your artwork would look like as a beautiful print?   Now you can find out.

Simply login to your account, click on any one of your images, and you'll see a special promotional link which allows you to order the image as a print.   Note - the special promotional link is only visible to members who are not currently enrolled in print-on-demand.   POD members have always been able to purchase their own artwork and do not need a special link.

You can order your prints on paper or canvas and choose to have them framed, matted, and/or stretched on canvas, if desired.

Fine Art America Introduces Customizable Shopping Carts

Fine Art America Introduces Secure, Full-Resolution Previews

March 15th, 2008

Fine Art America is dedicated to helping artists and art galleries sell fine art originals and prints online.

In order to make it easier for art collectors to make buying decisions regarding artwork that they can't physically hold and inspect, Fine Art America has developed a unique technology which allows collectors to "zoom in" and view full-resolution previews of any image on our site.  To see a live demonstration, click here.

This feature has the dual benefits of allowing collectors to take a closer at an image while still protecting the image from theft.

For any image, such as the Lincoln Memorial image on the right, previews are available in square sections which cover the image in a checkerboard pattern.   Previews are only available for 50% of those sections.   Think of it this way - if you were to lay a checkerboard over the image, you could view full-resolution previews by looking through white squares, but the black squares would be off limits.   By only offering high-resolution previews for 50% of the image, it is impossible for the high-resolution image to be illegally copied.   In addition, each of the full-resolution previews contains a Fine Art America watermark which further complicates theft.

Fine Art America Introduces Watermarks

March 15th, 2008

For those artists that are interested in complete image protection, you can now watermark your low-resolution images!

Here is a sample.

This is an optional feature which can be turned ON and OFF on an image by image basis.

It is our opinion that watermarks typically discourage sales, and therefore, we discourage watermarks.   However, the final decision is up to the artist.

Fine Art America Introduces Print On Demand Shopping Cart

February 24th, 2008

Add a Print-On-Demand Shopping Cart to Your Own Website!

Enable your visitors to purchase prints of your artwork directly from your own website via our secure online checkout system!   Simply upload your artwork to FineArtAmerica.com... add our shopping cart to your website... and we do the rest!

Fine Art America Recent Print Sales

January 11th, 2008

Morning Slump by Thomas Akers

Sold on January 11th to a buyer in Rumford, Rhode Island (United States)

Morning Slump by Thomas Akers

It seems to be quite popular to discuss "who is selling" and "what is selling" on FineArtAmerica.com.   Our discussion pages are always active with posts regarding those two topics.   In response to this persistent curiousity, we've created a new page which displays a partial list of recently sold prints!

The page is located here and can be accessed anytime by clicking on Artwork->Recently Sold Print in our navigation menu.

The page will display a random selection of prints which have sold within the past month.   We will only be showing prints which have NOT been purchased by their owner.   You can see where the artwork was purchase from and how the buyer configured the purchase (i.e. paper vs. canvas, frame, mat, etc.).

This is a great way to get a glimpse of what's selling and, should you chose to contact them, to learn from the artists that are having sales success!
