You've heard of silent letters in pronunciation, but here's a case of a missing letter or maybe the transposed letter! Say Perd-n-Alice and not Ped-ern-Alice and you'll have it right! This is Pedernales Falls State Park in Texas, located 10 miles (16 km) east of Johnson City on the Pedernales River, 14 miles (23 km) southwest of the river's mouth at Lake Travis in the Hill Country of Texas. You can view this area of the falls and river from a platform up on the hill to the left or you can get an entirely different view and a thrilling experience by walking over the tilted, layered stair steps of limestone into the center of the flowing water. I had to keep pinching myself as I walked across the rocks, saying over and over to myself "this is SO COOL!" Although because the Pedernales is prone to variable water levels and flash floods, we were lucky that there was enough water to show off the falls but not too much to make it dangerous.
